To my own surprise, when all the parts and pieces were assembled and I saw the finished whole, it reminded me of an amalgam of Marisol’s painted wooden figures, Warhol’s celebrity worship, Lichtenstein’s Pop Art comic images as High Art and traditional British porcelain commemorative ware.
Obama is “dishing out” his humanitarian concern for the good of the American public in contrast to the Bush administration’s capitulation to corporate priorities, big money and lack of concern for the average American. On the sculpture, the plates are inscribed with the goals and accomplishments of the Obama administration during it’s first year-and-a-half in office. The words in the balloon above Obama’s head, “Finding the right words can change the world,” are quoted from his father in “Dreams Of My Father.”
Barack took his father’s advice and found the Right Words.
