CHAZEN MUSEUM OF ART

About the Collection

When the Chazen Museum of Art opened in the fall of 1970 as the Elvehjem Art Center, the collection of 1,600 paintings and works on paper had been acquired by the UW–Madison since 1885. Today, there are over 20,000 works of art in the museum’s collections representing the entire spectrum of art history across culture, period, media, and genre.

“Venus of Urbino Revived”, 2018 (2019.1) was acquired by the museum in 2018, as part of a major gift by the Kohler Foundation. The piece was selected for its correlation with art history and is part of the museum’s applied and decorative arts collections.

The Chazen Museum is located in Madison, Wisconsin, on the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus.
